I once spent the thick end of £400 on just a few precious tomes from Coch-Y-Bonddu books! For they are THE vendor of books about country pursuits, hunting, shooting, fishing and working dogs. This story was delayed as I went to look to see if we had been listed, only to then put the word ‘Poacher’ into their search box and look through all 504 items on that list and spend only a little more money. They have thousands in their shop.
Coch-Y-Bonddu have the most astonishing stock of rare, valuable and desirable books as well as stuff like the Anglers Mail annuals from the Seventies. This means they have things from under a fiver, up to books like ‘BB’ The Pool Of The Black Witch, so desirable to ‘BB’ fans, that it is priced at £160. I think the top price I saw was £400 for one book. They are an utter Aladdin’s cave of delights for us as readers. That is why I was so keen to be in that exalted shop’s stock. I called and asked if it was OK to send a sample of the magazines and when I checked later with Coch-Y-Bonddu books’ guvnor, Paul, to be told ‘yes’, I was chuffed rotten.
The website is epic in proportion, exactly like stepping into a real bookshop lined with wonders, lacking only the true bibliophile’s delight at the smell of old books. That means that finding stuff is a bit of Library Science, now reduced to a search box for most of us.
