Ladies and gentlemen slingshooters I am gutted to admit that I simply have been unable to get insured for the proposed upcoming Andover shoot August 9th to 11th. It looks like such a mess up to get ‘commercial’ as against ‘club’ insurance or else, so help me I am up against mendacity by omission (translated, – I feel lied to) and over-keen brokers unwilling to admit they cannot help. I have been trying and nagging, calling and emailing since May.
THIS is the last reply in a long string of mails:
“Sorry Adam, I’m in and out of meetings today but I’m sorry you had to cancel. I did say that we hoped to have something better after 1/8, but would let you know, otherwise the premium had to be £560.00 – which we both agreed was too much but I explained this minimum premium was out of our hands.
As I explained when we spoke, the changes forced on us have affected a lot of brokers and insurers alike, and other markets we tried simply could not insure your event activity, however much I personally feel that it’s safe and obviously well-managed. There was a general misunderstanding of what it was all about and that proved impossible to get around.
Kind regards,

Most insurers won’t touch shooting sports, and the big organisations like the BASC make their own huge policies. This stuff is still a learning curve but the curve turned into a wall.
Either way, I am so sorry, but Andover is not happening now. Issue three of the magazine is nearing completion and will be on sale at the Ripley’s Rippers weekender.
